Steeped in History- Rome
So where would you start? How about Rome? It is the home of the Vatican, the Colosseum, the Forum and the Pantheon. Rome is full of churches and monuments and squares, more than you can see in day and definitely more than one visit. St. Peter’s Basilica and Trevi fountain, which are a must and are included in all sightseeing tours. There are the Spanish steps that you will probably want to check out as well. It is located in the heart of historic Rome, and is a monumental stairway of 138 steps. There are many breath taking parks and gardens and monuments and sculptures, that there is no way you can see it all on one visit, and this is why people keep returning to the Eternal City, year after year. Oh and in case you didn’t know, Rome is the Capital City of Italy.
The City of Water- Venice
Ah Venice! It has been portrayed in many movies filled with romance because of the rides on the canals. It is one of the most romantic cities in the world. The City of Water as it is referred to offers museums and galleries and churches for part of your sight seeing adventure. One site you won’t want to miss is St. Mark’s Campanile. The bell tower is over 98 meters tall and current is the home of 5 bells which ring on the hour every hour. If you are adventurous enough to take the climb to the top, you will be rewarded with a view of the entire city, the sea and the landscape that reaches to the Alps.
There are other cities of great interest like Verona, famous due largely because of Romeo and Juliet. There is Milan, Florence and Pisa, the home of the leaning tower. There are places such as Tuscany with the hills and cypresses. What about Sicily? It offers wonderful coastlines, and exotic plants!
And if your idea of a vacation is visiting numerous galleries and museums, than you should have plenty to keep you busy. You will see wonderful masterpieces by Michelangelo, Leonardo di Vinci, Botticelli and many others. You can spend your day inside at the museums, or you can work on your tan, or you can even ski. The possibilities are endless.
Basking in the Italian Weather!
The climate in this wonderful country can range from very cold in the higher altitudes to semitropical on the western coast of the Lower Peninsula. However, you do have a pretty balanced temperature most of the year, with ranges between 52 to 66 degrees. The Mediterranean breeze helps to offset those extreme temperatures. You will see most of the rain in the winter months along with some pretty cold temperatures on those eastern slopes. All and all you have plenty to do and see in this wonderful country and don’t forget to eat some pizza and lasagne, and spaghetti while you are there.
